Dear Library: From Dianne

Retired

Dear Library,

Growing up in a small coal-mining town in Athens County, I had very few opportunies to travel. Books were my entry into other worlds that I couldnever have imagined. I went through the Dick and Jane readers (young people may not have heard of those) in elementary school but knew that I needed a wider view of people, places and things.

I was thrilled to receive my first library card. Suddenly I could travel, in my mind, to all sorts of exotic places and meet characters who became as real to me as my hometown friends. Since then, I have lived in many different states and in England. One of the first things I did in each place was to seek out the local library and ask for a library card. Thank you, Dear Library, for opening the world to me.
