Qigong for All Adults: with KC Madika Daikai WarEagle

Every Wednesday afternoon at 3 o'clock

Sensei KC Madika Daikai WarEagle will lead this new series of exercise classes for physical and mental fitness by teaching the art of Qigong (pronounced, "chee-gung"). Says Daikai, "Qigong is a gentle form of exercise originating centuries ago in China that has found its place in Western lifestyles today. Qigong harmonizes, relaxes and invigorates, promoting health and well-being. Qigong can bring peace of mind as well as reduce stress and enhance the immune system, while increasing longevity.

Our instructor received her training in Qigong from Sensei Michael Clark of the Heaven and Earth Tai Chi Institute. Sensei WarEagle confides, "It has always been my calling in this life to offer healing and increase peace in the world. Qigong is one path I can share with others to accomplish these aims. I do this for the intangible benefits..."

The exercises of Qigong are learned more easily than with its kindred tradition, tai chi, and the health benefits also come more quickly. Qigong literally means "the practice of the vital life-force". Its gentle focused movements induce bodily harmony, which has been proven to alleviate stress and a range of ailments.

For more information, please visit Sensei KC Madika Daikai WarEagle's website: athenszencenter.org

UNVEILED!: The Daughter of Sherlock Holmes

Saturday, April 17 at 2:00 pm

Ohio mystery novelist, Abbey Pen Baker, will do a reading and book-signing for the first book from her new mystery series set in the Roaring Twenties, In the Dead of Winter, which concerns a private lady detective, Myrl Adler Norton, establishing her agency in the Gothic small town of Northampton, in rural western Massachusetts.

Myrl Adler Norton was the daughter of the acclaimed opera singer, Irene Adler, and Godfrey Norton, a respected professor of logic at Smith College, and nearly eclipsed another from her family as one of the most famous consulting detectives of all time. Many will want to measure Myrl against Sherlock and pair Faye with Watson–but this need to grasp at superficial comparison falls flat when faced with the reality that these were two women who lived out of step with their time–and in the end forged a reputation that preceded them. Meet Ohio mystery writer Abbey Pen Baker for a reading, discussion and book signing of In the Dead of Winter.

The author, Abbey Pen Baker, is the grand niece of Faye Martin Tullis, the original chronicler of the series of adventures which are now being reprinted. It is Baker's mission to see these stories are retrieved and offered to a new generation of readers. Her alter ego is Rebecca Morean, a tireless mother, professor, and science writer, with publications in literary magazines. The second of the series, Death at the Round Table, will be available this summer.

Personal Empowerment and Spiritual Self-healing: with Mark Lombard, New Age Philosopher

Thursday, May 6 at 6:30 pm

Mark Lombard is the author of the new nonfiction work, Being Human on Planet Earth.

Lombard will discuss how people can either move through life ignoring the greater reality within them, or they can learn the true mechanisms of their innate power. Without the knowledge of how reality works, people remain at the mercy of personal and global conflict. Lombard holds that there is a definite structure to people's lives and to all of Creation. This hidden structure holds the keys to joyful living, healing of the total self, and the manifestation of people's dreams. His discussion will be based on his new book.

A History of the Aramaic Language: The Language of Jesus

Thursday, May 20 at 6:30 pm

Historical linguist of ancient Mesopotamian and Mediterranean languages, Gary Alton, ABD, will be giving a presentation on the golden age of the Aramaic language, as it was spoken and written from 2000 BCE to 100 CE. Aramaic was a Semitic language, first spoken by nomads who formed an important trade network in the ancient Middle East. Jews returning to Palestine from their exile in Mesopotamia, adopted it as their everyday language because of their constant exposure to this critical language of the marketplace. Hence it became the mother-tongue of the Jewish prophet, Jesus, who was born in 4 BCE and died in 30 CE.

Gary Alton is the author of the scholarly investigative work, DANIEL AND THE ARAMAIC LANGUAGE, just published in 2009.
