- How do I make a purchase suggestion?
- Patrons can use our online Purchase Suggestion Form to submit purchase suggestions for books
- Does the library buy every title suggested?
- No. For a number of reasons, including the budget, the library is unable to order every suggested title. Purchase decisions are made using a number of criteria, including review journals and other online sources. For more information please see our Collection Development Policy.
- Will I be notified if my suggestion is purchased?
- No. The Library receives several purchase suggestions each week. Each suggestion is reviewed before a decision is made about buying it. If the item is ordered, it will appear in the library's catalog within a couple of weeks. At that point you may reserve it and be notified when it is available to pick up.
- How long does ordering take?
- The library places book orders every 2 to 4 weeks and sometimes more often. As soon as items are ordered the books are entered into the catalog and become reservable. It may be several more days (or weeks if the book hasn't yet been published) before the book physically arrives at your branch library.
- How far in advance do you order new titles?
- The library is only able to order titles that are within 6 months of publication. Often times publication dates change or titles change, etc., so ordering any sooner may delay the actual purchase. Most titles by best-selling authors are ordered by the library months before publication.
- Should I make an interlibrary loan request (MORE) instead?
- In some cases you may have better success placing an interlibrary loan request instead of a purchase suggestion. If you're looking for an older title (ie one that may be out of print) or for material on a specific subject, interlibrary loan is probably a better option. Interlibrary loan requests are handled at the front desk or via telephone (just have your library card number handy!).
- What is MORE?
- Moving Ohio Resources Everywhere (MORE) is a statewide interlibrary loan system coordinated by the State Library of Ohio. Library staff can search many Ohio library catalogs simultaneously to help you find the specific title you need. A successful request is usually fulfilled within 10 days, often sooner. MORE requests are free of charge.
