...a free service for the blind, visually impaired, or physically handicapped

Are you...

  • legally blind or visually impaired (unable to read conventional print)
  • physically handicapped (unable to hold a book)

Do you...

  • have a reading disability due to a medical condition (such as dislexia)

You may qualify for the Talking Book Program!

Your library system offers free books and magazines on audio cassettes to those unable to read standard print materials.

Tape players are also provided at no charge.

Am I eligible?

Any resident of the United States or American citizen living abroad who is unable to read or use standard print as a result of a temporary or permanent visual or physical limitation may qualify.

Contact your local library to determine eligibility or to request an application. The Talking Book program serves all ages.

What materials are available?

Books and Magazines

Choose from: bestsellers, classics, mysteries, westerns, poetry, biographies, informational books, children's books, and foreign language materials. There are more than seventy popular magazines available recorded or in braille.

Music Services

Choose from: books and magazines about music, braille and large print musical scores, and instructional cassettes.
