Good points. I should probably always add a disclaimer to posts like this: I work at a public library and my point of view is from that of a public librarian.

I like it, but I think it might be harder to teach people to click the 'more' link if they wanted to place the hold differently. Also, when talking about academic libraries versus public libraries, it's very often that a student only needs a book before a specific date (for a paper) and so that option is logical for them.

I say - like I always do - that as long as it's a preference to show '1 click holds' or the holds form then I think most people will be happy with the change.

Thanks, Owen, for this excellent post! I found it very helpful, especially in light of the recent discussion on the Koha list about the process of integrating the various forks of Koha.

I agree that within the official Koha project there isn't a place for Google Charts. Koha needs to stick to open libraries and APIs. But for our purposes it's quite useful. The jqPlot examples look very nice.

By not having a good feedback on using Google for this stuff I mean feedback from koha-devel and #koha members.

We've been creating our own reports too, but as we didn't have good feedback on using GoogleAPI we did it using the jqPlot library, which is really cute too, and its source can be included in koha as it doesn't have any restrictions (GPLd)
Great Blog!

This blog helped me in narrowing down some problems with the latest release candidate, Why do they always seem to leave out vital documentation when they release a new version? It may be minor to them but not to me. I'm sure we're not alone.
