Library Cards for Kids
Juvenile library cards are available for children under 18. The parent or guardian should come to the library with the child and sign a registration card accepting responsibility.
Children can use the free library card to:
- Borrow any of our books, magazines, DVDs, videos, audio books, CD-ROMs and music CDs
- Use the online research databases. The library pays for this service. You can sign in with your library card number.
- Sign up to use in-library computers and access the Internet.
The Library takes positive steps to keep kids safe online
- All library computers employ filtering software that cannot be overridden with a juvenile library card.
- The library's website has age-appropriate links.
- Librarians are available to help and answer questions.
Ask your children to show you what they know about computers.
Talk to your children about what material you consider appropriate for your family.
Provide guidelines on the amount of time your children spend online.
Instruct children not to give out names, addresses, passwords, telephone numbers, or credit card numbers.
Encourage responsible use of technology.
The responsibility for what each minor reads or views rests with his or her parents or guardians.
