100 Ohio Women in Air and Space

On exhibit at Athens

The Athens Country Public Library in conjunction with International Women’s Air & Space Museum of Cleveland, Ohio will have on display the traveling exhibit  “100 Ohio Women in Air and Space.” This exhibit is in honor of March being Women’s History month.

2012 marks the 102nd anniversary of the American women in flight.  The International Women’s Air & Space Museum has compiled a traveling exhibit of biographies, photographs and artifacts of 32 Ohio Women who have made their mark in aviation and space. The show will be on display in the circulation area and the small meeting room at the Athens Public Library from March 1 through March 30, 2012 during normal library hours.  Two of the inductees in the International Women’s Air & Space Museum exhibit feature women have southern Ohio connections. Connie Tobias, the most recent inductee, is a 1978 graduate of Ohio University Aviation program. Tobias is has flown over sixty different aircraft and over 1000 trans-Atlantic crossings. Also featured in this exhibit is Joan Mace, a former Ohio University Aviation chair, who is the first woman who has held the position of University Chair in an aviation program and the first woman chief pilot in the nation. In 2008 Joan was inducted into the National Association of Flight Instructors Hall of Fame.  The Athens Public Library salutes these trail blazers.

On Tuesday March 13 at 5:30 a reception will be held in the foyer of the Athens Public Library for these women pilots hosted by the Ohio University's Women in Aviation.
