Volunteer

Time flies, but wouldn't you rather gladly give it away?

Volunteer - a person who performs a service willingly and without pay.

The Athens County Public Libraries has many opportunities for able and willing volunteers.  Both young and old have spent intervals of their lives giving to a place they call home, a place they love best.

  • “It is a peaceful and fun place to be.”
  • “I love the library more than anything else on the earth, and it is a lifetime love.”
  • “I was already coming here all the time anyway.  It just made sense to volunteer."

Volunteers consider their sacrifice as a personal support to the library.

  • “I consider it a contribution to my community.”
  • “I love to read, so I help out.”

In addition, volunteers say the atmosphere and work is pleasant.

  • “Even when it is busy, the library is peaceful.”
  • “I enjoy interacting with the patrons and staff.”

Volunteers at the Athens County Public Libraries set their own hours, and appreciate the activity while serving.

  • “It helps to keep you in shape -- all that reaching up and crouching down.”  "Volunteering at the library is very physical, as opposed to just sitting somewhere."
  • "I find books to read while shelving that I would not have otherwise found."

Counting the cost of time spent, volunteering at the library makes sense!  If you are interested in volunteering, visit our website for more information (http://myacpl.org/volunteer) or please ask for an application and return it to the front desk.
