Today at the Athens branch, the Mayor proclaimed Saturday, April 14, 2012 as Friends of the Athens Public Library Day.  For over 30 years, The Friends have significantly supported the Athens branch, including contributions to the 1993 and 2005 additions, asphalting the parking lot, purchasing new furniture, supporting adult and children’s programming, and supplying refreshments for each month’s artist’s reception.  Money for this support comes from monthly book sales and membership fees.

Before the proclamation, the Mayor came to check out books.  :)

Cake was served for everyone attending the event and booksale.  A good summation of the end of National Library Week!
